Gerard A. “Jed” Lacey, soccer coach at Dawson County High School, in Dawsonville, Ga., died Saturday, April 12 from injuries in an automobile accident.
In addition to coaching Dawson County’s varsity boys and girls soccer teams, Lacey also was an assistant coach on the school’s varsity football team. He taught special education classes at the school. Better known as Coach Lacey, Jed followed his passion to coach and motivate the youth of Dawson County. He dedicated his life in mentoring youth to reach their full potential as a person, as a student, a team member and improving the community around them. Coach Lacey is survived by his wife of 23 years, Charlotte Lacey and their daughter Fallon. In addition to immediate family, Coach Lacey is survived by numerous students he coached and mentored throughout his career. Fellow coaching staff and faculty Jed considered members of his extended family.
