Victor Cortez

Gwinnett County Police Officer, Victor Cortez

Victor Cortez, 35, who died seven months after being diagnosed with stage IV stomach cancer, had been with the police department for nearly four years, working with the gang unit after graduating from the police academy in July 2014. His police career followed a career in the U.S. Army; he was as an Army Ranger.

“This exceptional officer, Army veteran, loving husband, father of two, and great friend will be tremendously missed,” said Lt. Edward Restrepo, Cortez’s supervisor, in a department release. “Anyone who was fortunate to cross paths with him can attest to what a truly special individual he was. This place will never be the same without him.”

Victor Cortez is survived by his wife, Jessica, daughter, Mackenzie (3) and son, Lucas (1)
